VARIOUS PARAPROFESSIONAL POSITIONS- Berrien County School System has multiple paraprofessional vacancies for the 2023- 2024 school year in various capacities. Positions include regular classroom paraprofessionals ranging from PreK thru 12th gr, special education paraprofessionals, ISS paraprofessional, math intervention paraprofessionals, etc. Grade levels range from primary to high school at several school campuses.  Applicants must either hold a Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate or be eligible for a paraprofessional certificate by having a min. of 60 semester college hours or having passed the GACE Paraprofessional Test. Job skills will vary with position but previous experience working in a school system or an educational setting is preferred. Position to start - Various and ongoing. Positions include benefits package and TRS pension plan membership. This is a 190-day position. Starting (base) salary with zero years experience is $17,241.30 per year ($11.34 per hour) to max of $19,064.48 per year ($12.54 per hour).

 

There is an anticipated pay raise once the final 2023 - 2024 budget is approved.

TITLE:  Paraprofessional (General)

JOB GOAL:  To assist the teacher in the achievement of learning objectives by working with individual students and/or small groups to present or reinforce learning concepts.

REPORTS TO:  Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High school diploma plus 2 years of additional post-secondary education, or an associate degree, or have passed a state approved assessment program.
  2. Valid Paraprofessional license issued by State Department of Education.
  3. Ability to work effectively in the classroom setting with students and teacher, creating a positive learning environment.
  4. General computer proficiency.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents.
  6. Physical demands - must be able to stand and walk the majority of the day; lift and carry twenty to thirty (30) pounds frequently, and up to sixty (60) pounds occasionally; push or pull same amounts frequently.  Job also requires frequent binding, stooping, and crawling.

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Work with individual students and/or groups of students to positively reinforce materials/concepts introduced by the teacher.
  2. Guide independent study, small groups, enrichment work, and remedial work arranged by the teacher.  Assist teacher with implementation of lesson plans.
  3. Assist with the preparation of materials for instruction, including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of display/bulletin boards, learning centers, manipulatives, and other teaching aids.
  4. Assist teacher by performing necessary clerical tasks and routine record keeping.
  5. Assist with supervision of students, to include the maintenance of order in the classroom, media center, halls, lunchroom, and school grounds.  Supervise class when necessary.
  6. Assist teacher by setting up AV equipment for classroom use, and assist with classroom housekeeping.
  7. Administer and grade examinations, and other work when applicable.
  8. Use appropriate behavior management techniques to maintain a positive learning environment.
  9. Attend approved training sessions, staff development activities, and required meetings.
  10. Assist with special needs of students, i.e. sickness, first aid, absenteeism, and emotional needs.
  11. Assist in safeguarding confidential materials.
  12. Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Position works 190 days.

EVALUATION:  Performance is evaluated in accordance with the personnel policy on classified evaluation.
