MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN -This is an additional position in our Maintenance Department. Full- time position which qualifies for benefits (health and pension). Position works 235 days a year. We have various maintainance level positions from General Level 1 lawn and ground maintenance to Level 3 which includes professional industry certifications/licensure such as HVAC, Electrician, & Plumbing. Candidate must exhibit a strong work ethic and have a valid Georgia driver's license and safe driving record. Candidate must submit, upon hire, to a criminal background check. Candidate’s background check should not prohibit him/her from employment with the school system. Based on position and experience candidates for Level 1 should have experience and knowledge in general lawn & landscaping maintenance. Level 2 & 3  candidates should have experience/certification (includes but not limited to journeyman level and apprentice level) or licensure in HVAC, Electrician, carpentry, and/or Plumbing. Exact position level filled will be determined by candidate experience and qualifications. TITLE: Maintenance Worker I-III (separate job descriptions for each level can be supplied upon request)

SALARY: Starting Salary based on 0 years experience is $23,289.62 ($12.39 per hr). Salary of experienced applicant will increase with years experience and Maintainance Level qualifications and industry certifications . Max salary $34,211.49 ($18.20 per hr). 

 

FLSA EXEMPT:  No

JOB GOAL:   To perform general craft type jobs to specific specialized skill jobs in order to maintain and improve the facilities of a public school system for peak operating efficiency and usefulness.

REPORTS TO:   Director of Maintenance

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. High school diploma, or equivalent, preferred.
  2. Knowledge of skills for a variety of trades which allows for effective operation.
  3. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in arms assigned to work.
  4. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  5. Valid Georgia driver's license and safe driving record.
  6. Physical demands - must be able to stand and walk the majority of the day, performing heavy manual labor: lift and carry thirty (30) pounds frequently, and up to one hundred (100) pounds infrequently.  Push or pull some amounts frequently.  Job also requires frequent binding and stooping. The job requires some work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

 JOB DUTIES: 

  1. Assist in the performance of preventive maintenance, emergency repair, or any type of repair in a variety of craft or trade areas
  2. Assists other Maintenance Level personnel in the performance of their respective duties, as needed.
  3. Consult with Director of Maintenance regarding new installations and modifications of existing systems; consult with some regarding the preparation of specifications for work to be done on contract,
  4. Demonstrated skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment of the maintenance department.
  5. Knowledge of maintenance Level position for which hired ranging from lawn care & maintenance to general carpentry, electrical, and/or plumbing, to specialized services such as specific maintenance work in HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing. 
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor, possibly outside of trade or craft arm in which trained. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Position works 235 days.
